ACURA NSX: EVOLUTION OF A MODERN SPORTS CAR

Acura's exotic, sleek and powerful super car has drawn attention whether on Canadian roads or the autoshow circuit since its debut in 1991. For 2002, the Acura NSX has undergone styling and suspension enhancements to give the car a fresh, high- performance look and a boost in handling to maintain its status as a world-class sports car.

Designed to reduce weight and function more efficiently, fixed position High Intensity Discharge bulbs replace the halogen, retractable headlights. With a restyled front bumper, chin spoiler and hood line, the front fascia of the NSX now presents a much more aggressive stance and improves airflow around the vehicle.

At the rear, the bumper, turn signals, air diffuser and badging have all been revised. New exhaust finishers and trunk lip spoiler ensure a high level of distinction and enhance performance. These cosmetic changes resulted in the added benefit of superior aerodynamics as well as modern style when compared to the 2001 model. The drag coefficient of the 2002 NSX has been reduced from 0.32 to 0.30 and top speed increased from 269 to 280 km/h while enhancing stability.

With higher front spring rates, a larger rear stabilizer bar and tire size was increased from 215/45R16 to 215/40R17 in the front and from 245/40R17 to 255/40R17 in the rear, cornering performance of the NSX is improved with less body roll.

The NSX features a four-wheel, double wishbone suspension built on an all-aluminum frame that benefits from both overall light weight and high rigidity. The 2002 NSX is powered by a 3.2-litre V6 engine with Honda's patented Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) delivering 290 horsepower and 224 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard. When equipped with the optional 4-speed Sequential SportShift automatic, a 3.0-litre VTEC V6 engine that generates 252 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque is standard.
