BMW 330Ci – a model athlete in elegant style
The 3.0-litre straight-six power unit develops maximum output of 225 hp and maximum torque of 221 lb-ft, making it the most powerful engine in its class. Like a super-athlete, the 330Ci accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and continues moving on powerfully to its top speed of 250 km/h.
The 330Ci Coupé comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, even smaller increments between the individual gears making it even easier to find the ideal gear in each case. Sixth gear reduces engine speed at high speeds on the road, lowering the noise level and fuel consumption accord-ingly. The 325Ci comes standard with a five-speed manual gearbox, and all coupés in the range are available as an option with five-speed auto-matic transmission featuring Adaptive Transmission Management (ATM), a fully controlled converter clutch, and BMW Steptronic.
Adaptive light in bends, an optional, intelligent system in light technology, is a revolutionary innovation the world over allowing the driver to literally light up the bends ahead. Indeed, adaptive light technology in bends not only adjusts the distribution of light to the respective situation on the road, but also sees in advance what is coming up ahead, applying networked data such as the steering angle, road speed, and body roll, thus determining in what direction the driver is steering the car. This ability to gather the technical data enables the adaptive lights to calculate the course of the road, illuminating the road and the sides accordingly.
The Canadian versions of the 3 Series coupé will be delivered from the start with LED tail lights featuring BMW's dynamic adaptive brake lights technology. Depending on the actual deceleration of the vehicle, the adaptive brake lights change the area covered and the intensity of the brake lights, thus telling motorists following from behind how hard the driver is applying the brakes (for example whether he is applying the brakes in full). Drivers following from behind can therefore see how fast the BMW in front of them is slowing down, with the risk of front-to-rear collisions being significantly reduced in the process.
